Envision a classroom where students no longer passively read about Socrates but actively converse with him directly. This is no longer science fiction but a reality enabled by sophisticated AI-driven chatbots. Such technological advancements align perfectly with the Socratic tradition itself, which prioritizes dialogue and interactive inquiry over passive absorption of knowledge. Despite AI’s clear benefits, skepticism persists, especially regarding concerns around plagiarism and the erosion of originality. These worries, while valid, are not new phenomena. History provides ample examples, notably the contentious feud between Newton and Leibniz over calculus, demonstrating early ethical conflicts surrounding intellectual ownership. Eventually, academia evolved to embrace referencing and citation practices, not solely as preventative measures against plagiarism but as essential tools for validating and acknowledging intellectual heritage. Modern academic practice, laden with thousands of citations often scarcely examined, highlights the performative nature of traditional referencing systems, emphasizing recognition over genuine engagement.

My personal academic journey underscores these broader academic issues. Engaging in lively discussions with traditional scholars, I’ve observed that AI’s strongest proponents frequently hail from pragmatic fields such as engineering, business, and entrepreneurship—disciplines grounded in practical application rather than theoretical repetition. Elon Musk’s decision to forgo a PhD reflects a broader skepticism about investing extensive years into repackaging existing knowledge. Similarly, my own initial path toward a PhD in Egyptology shifted dramatically following a pivotal realization: dedicating a decade to synthesizing existing scholarship felt far less compelling than actively innovating and teaching. Instead, I pursued a PhD in education and leadership, informed by profound dialogues with anthropologists, archaeologists, business leaders, and even Olympic-level thinkers. This decision, coinciding with the birth of my first daughter, represented a transformative milestone personally and professionally.


A defining moment of clarity occurred ten years ago aboard a train journey from Luxor to Cairo. Surrounded by visionaries, including an Olympiad, I recognized that the very foundations of epistemology were poised for radical transformation, predating mainstream discourse on AI or quantum computing. At this juncture, I confronted and ultimately discarded the misconception that education was somehow inferior to so-called “pure” disciplines. Education, I realized, is fundamentally profound, rooted deeply in epistemological inquiry and the art of knowledge transmission.



A Passionate Commitment to Teaching



My passion for teaching transcends disciplinary boundaries. Whether guiding students through the complexities of Hamlet, Paradise Lost, or intricate concepts like Fourier series and quantum mechanics, I experience immense joy and fulfillment. My aspirations include nurturing student curiosity across a broad spectrum, including hieroglyphs, connecting my enduring interest in ancient Greek classics to broader pedagogical practices. Ultimately, education represents a vibrant journey of discovery, connection, and intellectual growth, not constrained by specific subject matter but enriched by interdisciplinary curiosity and exploration.

Looking ahead, it’s undeniable that AI will redefine educational paradigms fundamentally. Future discussions will delve deeper into concrete changes required in lesson planning, pedagogical methodologies, and assessment strategies to maximize AI’s educational potential. However, it remains crucial at this juncture to recognize AI as a powerful educational ally rather than a threat. Embracing AI means actively shaping the future rather than passively reacting to it, equipping students not only with technical competence but with the critical, ethical, and creative capacities necessary to navigate an increasingly complex, technologically integrated world.

Traditional teaching methods emphasizing rote memorization and standardized testing increasingly appear outdated. We will foster environments where students learn to navigate, evaluate, and creatively employ AI resources.
